Sangakkara 171 at engaland 2017
Kumar Sangakkara is in good nick having complied a flawless 171 for Surrey against Somerset at The Oval in a County Championship Division I match yesterday.
With the national cricket team going through many struggles, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) will be tempted to ask their former captain Kumar Sangakkara to come out of retirement after he compiled an unblemished century for his country Surrey against Somerset in a Division I County Championship game at The Oval yesterday.
The 38-year-old Sangakkara, who served a short stint as a national selector, was playing only his second game for the county this season. In April, conditions in England heavily favour seam bowlers and batsmen go through many struggles. But Sangakkara was dominant after Surrey won the toss and opted to bat first and went onto compile 171 as Surrey reached 347 for four.
Sangakkara, who retired from Test cricket last year, walked in in the eighth over of the innings and added 187 runs for the second wicket with opener Rory Burns.
He reached three figures with a straight six off left-arm spinner Roelof van der Merwe. He required just 96 deliveries for his century and hit 15 four and four sixes.
Sangakkara was dismissed for 171 that came off 176 deliveries with 24 fours and four sixes.
Two weeks ago, in his first game of the season against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge, Sangakkara scored 32 and 83.
Another former captain, Sanath Jayasuriya was asked to come out of retirement ten years ago when Sri Lanka toured England in 2006 after opener Marvan Atapattu was ruled out of the tour with a back injury. Jayasuriya is tipped to take over as Chairman of Selectors later this month.
Given Sri Lanka’s recent struggles, cricket officials will be tempted to send word to the star batsman to fill up the vacant number three slot of the national team.
Sangakkara teamed up with Kevin Pietersen last season as Surrey competing in Division II got promoted to the top division. Current Sri Lanka coach Graham Ford was Surrey’s Head Coach last season.
The national cricket team will travel to England next week and will play play three Tests, five ODIs and a T-20 International.
Gayle 50 runs to 12 balls world record
Chris Gayle needed only 12 balls to get his half-century against Adelaide Strikers, equalling the record for fastest T20 fifty set by Yuvraj Singh in 2007. Here's how our ball-by-ball commentators described the carnage
David warner funny ipl 2017
As David Warner and Sunrisers Hyderabad romped to a comfortable victory against Gujarat Lions, the spirit of cricket was upheld by some genuine sportsmanship by Warner. It was visible in the tenth over of the match when Moises Henriques hit a ball down the ground. Bowler Basil Thampi tried to stop it but in the process lost his shoe. Herein, Warner was of some assistance to Basil Thampi after the bowler lost his footwear after his run-up and in a fine gesture Warner handed the shoe back and completed the run.
The entire stadium along with the coaching staff of SRH saw the lighter side of the incident.

Mahela sixes
The last-minute signing of Mahela Jayawardena has already paid big dividends for the Adelaide Strikers.
The Sri Lankan legend showed all his class and experience in steering his new team through a tricky run chase against the reigning KFC Big Bash League champions at the WACA Ground on Monday night.
Quick Single: Strikers make it two from two
Coming to the crease in the second over with the Strikers needing a further 134 off 110 balls against the quality Perth Scorchers bowling attack, Jayawardena’s 42 from 40 helped see Adelaide through the most difficult part of the chase.
It was exactly the role the Strikers would have had in mind when they signed the 38-year-old just 11 days ago as a late replacement for injured West Indian allrounder Kieron Pollard.
"It’s a tough place to come and beat them here, but the bowlers set the tone up front and kept picking up wickets, which kept them to a decent, chaseable score," Jayawardena said.
“It was a tough wicket with the new ball and we had to stall for a little while, but it was just sensible batting at the end."
Nuwan kulasekara 5 wickets
A fearsome spell of inswing bowling from Nuwan Kulasekara was the definitive performance in a bizarre third ODI at the Gabba, where both captains would have batted first, but 100 may have been a winning total. Kulasekara took a career-best 5 for 22 as he damned Australia to 74 all out, with the aid of Lasith Malinga, who tore down the tail.
Sri Lanka's run chase shaped as a straightforward one, but they lost six wickets before they reached their target, meaning 16 wickets had been lost in the day for 149 runs. Had Australia held early chances off Tillakaratne Dilshan and Lahiru Thirimanne, they may have won early the momentum to spark a heavier collapse, but instead the visitors limped home in the 20th over, with their last recognised batting pair at the crease.
Having rested several key players for the first two matches, Australia returned to near-full strength at Brisbane, with Michael Clarke, David Warner and Matthew Wade arriving to bolster the batting, but none of them could make it to double figures. In fact, only the last pair of Mitchell Starc and Xavier Doherty did.
The captains shared the opinion that the pitch was full of runs at the toss, but both men seem to have underestimated the effect of Brisbane's humidity. It was in the air that Kulasekara won the battle, not off the pitch. Few batsmen are equipped to negate the amount of movement he achieved, particularly in the middle of his spell, but the lateness of Kulasekara's inswing made him almost unplayable, and Australia will perhaps feel there is little they could have done better to counter bowling of that quality.
The deliveries that bowled Clarke and Moises Henriques began about a metre outside off stump, and only began to move around halfway down the pitch, when the batsmen were already committed to the stroke. Both men played for big inswing, but as the ball swerved hard at the stumps like a snake suddenly smelling prey, they still had their inside edges passed and their woodwork rattled. George Bailey had made a similar mistake first ball, only he had offered no stroke to a delivery he believed to be passing safely outside off stump, and it struck him flush on the front pad and would have hit middle and off.
Sri Lanka's bowlers only mustered modest swing to begin with, but Angelo Mathews used a little extra bounce to dismiss Warner, who holed out to mid on playing a cross-batted stroke that was ill-judged in any case. Warner had been among the runs during the Test leg of the tour, and the manner of his dismissal in Brisbane may add heat to the debate about Australia's rotation policy, and whether batsmen are being done a disservice by being rested when they are in form.
Kulasekara worked himself into a honeyed rhythm after that dismissal, and by the 12th over, had embarrassed Australia's first-choice team. His first two scalps were the result of fine catching as well as great bowling, as Jayawardene held on to a tough chance off Phillip Hughes' bat at third slip, before wicketkeeper Kushal Perera dove to his left to snaffle David Hussey's inside edge.
Malinga also found movement in the air when he came into the attack at 6 for 30, and removed Mitchell Johnson with an outswinging yorker in his second over, before taking a wicket in each of his two next overs.
Doherty was circumspect at the crease to begin with, leaving the strokemaking to Starc, who was intent on making the best of a bad situation, and the pair rode their luck for eight overs, before Shaminda Eranga ended the innings with a slower ball. Had they survived five more overs together, it may have been their side that took the series lead.
Dilshan's innings of 22 was populated almost exclusively by booming drives, most of which failed to make contact - many by quite a distance. Faced with a small target and difficult conditions, Sri Lanka's batsmen appeared to have opted for a hyper-aggressive approach, reasoning that if just one of them came off, victory would come easy.
However at 4 for 37, that strategy had only delivered them jitters and handed the opposition momentum. Kushal Perera and Upul Tharanga chose then to reserve their belligerence only for the poor deliveries, and in a match where even minuscule contributions with the bat were invaluable, two wicketless overs before the tea break eased Sri Lanka's nerves, and three quick boundaries after resumptions hurtled them close to safety. Starc picked up two more scalps before Sri Lanka reached their target, but with so few to get, neither breakthrough gave rise to real hope of a famous win.
The action moves to the SCG now, where Sri Lanka have flourished in ODIs, and the visitors will hope to wrap up the series there, and maintain their dominance of Australia in their own conditions in recent years.
viarat kholi 100 runs vs engalnd
A typical modern-day cricketer, Virat Kohli plays his game aggressively, bares his emotions loudly in public, yet retains the element of maturity that forms an integral part of every good and great player. Anil Kumble said he had thought hard before calling Kohli the best under-22 player in international cricket - that would rate as perhaps the best compliments he has received. It is also proof of Kohli's transformation as a player.
Tharanga 14th century 100 runs vs south africa
Sri Lanka trail 4-0, have not yet batted out 50 overs in the series, and continue to lack menace with the ball, but around Upul Tharanga's sleek 119 at Newlands, a little hope has built. The hope is not necessarily that Sri Lanka can prevent a whitewash - although that is their immediate concern. The larger expectation is that perhaps there are the makings of a competitive top order in this present unit. Niroshan Dickwella's fifties through the course of the limited-overs matches have suggested he can play a strong role in Sri Lanka's future short-format sides. The quality of Tharanga's 14th hundred - his first since 2013 - has also led some to believe he is on the verge of a renaissance in his own game.
Despite this, South Africa have still been completely dominant, and have not really looked like losing at any point in the series. Faf du Plessis has been their batting lynchpin, with scores of 55 not out, 105 and a career-best 185. Imran Tahir has held the bowling together while the seamers rotate around him. Even after being cracked for 51 off his first five overs on Tuesday, Tahir took 2 for 25 in his second five, and helped clinch the match.
Around these two have been a cast of outstanding players who have taken each game by the collar at various moments and kept South Africa spikes on Sri Lanka throats. The top four have all scored half-centuries in the series. The bowlers have not been quite as consistent, but almost always recovered well from their bad spells.
AB de Villiers has said it publicly: South Africa will be disappointed with anything less than 5-0.
MOHITH 300 runs in t 20 cricket at india
21-year-old Mohit Ahlawat became the first batsman in the world to score a 300 in a T20 match on Tuesday. While the match had no official status and was only a local match played in Delhi, Ahlawat’s knock was one was filled with superlatives and his triple century came in 72 balls.
The Delhi wicketkeeper-batsman smashed a whopping 39 sixes and 14 boundaries on his way to the total. No player has ever crossed the 200-run-mark in international or domestic T20 matches. In professional cricket, the highest individual score in T20 cricket belongs to Chris Gayle, who made 175 runs in just 66 balls for Royal Challengers Bangalore. The highest individual in international cricket is 156 that Aaron Finch smashed in 63 balls for Australia against England.
‘Carnage’ was the oft used word to describe the two innings were described as and so, one can only imagine what Ahlawat’s innings would have looked like. It is also interesting to note that no team has scored more than 300 runs in T20 cricket.
The highest score by a team in 20-over cricket is a record shared by IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore and Australia. The two teams had managed 263.
Asela gunaratne best one day innings
Allrounder Asela Gunaratne has blasted Sri Lanka to a stunning two-wicket T20 win over Australia in Geelong.
He hit the match-winning boundary off the last ball on Sunday night to cap his outstanding 84no from 46 balls, as Sri Lanka snatched the win from the home team's grasp.
Sri Lanka have an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the series ahead of Wednesday's last game at Adelaide Oval.
Australia are yet to beat Sri Lanka in a home T20 after five games.
Gunaratne's innings featured six fours and five sixes, including four sixes and three fours in the tumultuous last two overs.
Chasing 173, Sri Lanka slumped to 5-40 and with two overs left, they were still off the pace at 7-138.
But Gunaratne blasted three sixes and a four off Moises Henriques, meaning they needed 14 off the last over.
After Nuwan Kalesekara was dismissed off the first ball, Gunaratne belted a four and a six off Andrew Tye.
As was the case in game one, it came down to the last ball of the match, with Sri Lanka needing two to win.
Gunaratne smashed another boundary, sparking wild scenes of jubilation among the Sri Lankans as they reached 8-176.
He also top-scored with 52 in Friday night's win.
SANATH JAYASURIYA 100 RUNS IN IPL CRICKET
Sanath Jayasuriya smashed the second fastest century in the Indian Premier League, ending with an unbeaten 114 off 48 balls, as Mumbai cruised to a nine-wicket victory over Chennai yesterday with 37 balls to spare.
The Mumbai crowds came to see Sachin Tendulkar but he made only 12 and it was fellow opener Jayasuriya who was in irresistible form as the home side chased Chennai's 156 for six off 20 overs.
The Sri Lankan reached his hundred off 45 balls and hit 11 sixes and nine fours.
